Exploring Alanya with a licensed guide
What a licensed guide does in Alanya
Alanya is a coastal destination known for its beaches and the impressive Alanya Castle, but the history here goes back thousands of years. A licensed tourist guide turns these sights into a story — explaining the Seljuk architecture of the castle, the history of the old town (Kaleiçi), and the ancient sites scattered across the region. Your guide will help you navigate the narrow streets of the old town, point out the best viewpoints, and provide context for the local culture and traditions.
In Türkiye, professional guiding at museums and archaeological sites is reserved for licensed tourist guides under the Tourist Guiding Profession Law (No. 6326). Every guide we work with holds a licence from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is registered with a regional guide chamber and wears the official badge. For Alanya and the wider Antalya province, that chamber is the Antalya Guides Chamber (ARO), where 1,437 licensed guides are registered today. The most common guide languages here are English, German, Russian, Bulgarian, French, Dutch.
A private guide works only for your group. They plan the day with you, set the order of visits to avoid the busiest hours, explain what you are seeing in your own language and adapt the pace for children, older travellers or photographers.
Where your guide will take you
Most visits are based in the city of Alanya, with the Alanya Castle and the old town (Kaleiçi) as the central highlights. The castle, built by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I in the 13th century, offers panoramic views of the sea and the city. Inside the old town, you can explore the Clock Tower, the Yivli Minaret, and the Alanya Museum, which houses archaeological finds from the region.
Beyond the city, your guide can take you to nearby natural and historical sites. The Taurus Mountains provide opportunities for hiking and horse riding, while the Koprucay River offers rafting adventures. Day trips to ancient cities like Aspendos and Perge, or to the Manavgat Waterfall, are also popular options. For longer excursions, tours to Cappadocia or Ephesus by flight are available, allowing you to combine Alanya with other major Turkish destinations.
Your guide can combine these freely. A typical first day covers the castle and old town, while a second day might focus on a natural site or a day trip to an ancient city. Your guide will choose trails and routes that suit your group's interests and physical abilities.
When to visit Alanya
Alanya has a Mediterranean climate with long, hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are ideal for visiting, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer (July to August) is the peak season for beach tourism, with hot days and warm seas. Winter (November to March) is cooler and wetter, but still mild compared to much of Europe, and the landscape is green and lush. Your guide will suggest the best order of visits for the season and the time of day.
Beaches and outdoor activities
Alanya is famous for its beaches, including Cleopatra Beach, which is said to have been visited by Cleopatra herself. The beach is a long stretch of golden sand backed by palm trees. Your guide can provide information about the best times to visit the beach, local customs, and any safety tips. For those who prefer adventure, the Koprucay River offers rafting tours, and the Taurus Mountains are perfect for hiking and horse riding. These activities can be combined with a guided tour to create a well-rounded experience.
Tips for your guided days
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip: the old town has cobblestone streets, and the castle involves climbing steps. Bring a light layer even in summer, because the castle and old town can be shaded and cooler than the beach. Entrance tickets are bought at each site; a regional museum pass may cover several of the main museums, and your guide can tell you whether it pays off for your plan. On busy days, start early — the castle and old town are calmest at opening time and again in the late afternoon.
How booking an Alanya guide works
Choose Alanya, your date, the number of days, the guide language and your group size in the search box at the top of this page. You will see how many licensed guides in the region speak that language and the typical daily rate. Send the reservation request and we contact available guides; you receive your guide's contact details within 24 hours.
English-speaking guides in Alanya typically start from about €120 per day; rarer languages can cost more. The daily rate covers one destination and guiding only — entrance tickets, transport and meals are not included. Rates are indicative and confirmed when you book. We do not take any payment online: the guide is paid directly in cash at the start of the tour.
If no local guide speaks your language, a guide can come from another region; their travel and accommodation are then added to the booking. Need transport as well? A private car or van with driver can be arranged together with your guide — see the vehicle options below.
